Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram

Thillai Nataraja Temple, also referred as the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, is a Hindu temple
dedicated to Nataraja, the form of Shiva as the lord of dance (cosmic dancer). This temple is
located in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India. This temple has ancient roots and a Shiva shrine
existed at the site when the town was known as Thillai.

Chidambaram, the name of the city
literally means “stage of consciousness”. The temple architecture symbolizes the connection
between the arts and spirituality, creative activity and the divine.

The temple wall carvings
display all the 108 karanas from the Natya Shastra by Bharata Muni, and these postures form a
foundation of Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance.
it is the only Shiva temple common to both the Pancha Sabha Thalam and the Pancha Bhuta Thalam.

Kollidam River

The Kollidam (referred to as Coleroon in Colonial English) is a river in southeastern India. The
Kollidam is the northern distributary of the Kaveri River as it flows through the delta of Thanjavur. It
splits from the main branch of the Kaveri River at the island of Srirangam and flows eastward into
the Bay of Bengal. The distribution system in Kollidam lies at Lower Anaicut which is an island of
river Kollidam.

Mayuranathaswami Temple, Mayiladuthurai

Mayuranathaswamy Temple, Mayiladuthurai, or simply Mayuranathar Temple, is a Hindu temple in
the town of Mayiladuthurai (formerly known as Mayavaram or Mayuram) in Tamil Nadu, India. The
temple is dedicated to Lord Mayuranathaswamy, a form of Shiva, and has given its name to the
town itself.

The main icon is a lingam and the presiding deity is called Mayuranathar because the

Hindu goddess Parvathi worshipped Shiva here in the form of a mayura.On the day of the new moon in the Tamil month of
Aippasi (November–December), religious Hindus have a ceremonial bath in the temple tank as it is believed to purify them from sins. An annual dance festival called the Mayura Natyanjali festival is celebrated within the precincts of the
temple each year.

Dharmapuram Adheenam

The adheenam was founded during the 16th century, along with the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam and
the Thiruppanandal Adheenam, to spread the ideology of Saiva Sidhantham.

The adheenam is involved in publishing Saivite literature, specifically the Thevaram and Tiruvasakam
and its translations. It is also involved in literary scholarship. 182 Vaitheeswaran Koil, near Sirkazhi,

is one of the temples the adheenam maintains.

Arunachala Kavirayar a Tamil poet and a composer of Carnatic music in the 18th Century CE studied
both Tamil and Sanskrit in this adheenam. The head of Mutt was so pleased with Kavirayar and even
considered making Arunchala as his successor. At 18, Kavirayar left the Mutt and Later composed
the Famous Opera on the Epic Ramayana called as Rama Natakam.

The 26th Guru Maha Sannidhanam died on 4 December 2019, and was succeeded by Sri
Masillamani Desiga Gnanasambanda Swamigal as the 27th Guru Maha Sannidhanam of the
adheenam.
